Tax
Form 1120-F
Form 1120-F is the US income tax return for foreign corporations, used to report income effectively connected with a US trade or business and certain US-source income. A foreign corporation may need to file even where a treaty reduces or eliminates the tax due.
In plain terms: The US tax return for a company incorporated outside the US that has US income.
Why it matters
Relevant when the foreign entity itself, rather than a US subsidiary, has US activity. Filing protectively is common practice where the position is that no tax is owed, because failing to file can jeopardise the ability to claim deductions later.
